Basket chandeliers

The basket chandeliers, sac à perle in French, began to be made around 1750. It started with delicate designs. From de central ring, which support the branches, chains of cut glass are run to a smaller ring on top, like a tent. There are two types, the tent-and-waterfall, and tent-and-bag chandeliers. The waterfall element contains a lot off cut-glass drops or icicles. The bag or basket is formed by strings of glass beads or buttons. Later, when electricity was introduced, armless types appeared. with just internal ligting. This type is loved for its simple form and shielded light.
